I wanted to create a space where I could share more of the thoughts and experiences that go on behind my art practice. As I often use the painting process to unpack interactions, relationships and emotions to tell the stories of my internal world. I thought it would be of benefit to also share more of my writing alongside the paintings.

I have written since I was a child, perhaps before I fell in love with drawing and painting. As I got older and the experiences I was going through grew more and more complex, words felt limiting. And if I’m being really honest, which is the whole point of this, I felt too seen. My words were too exact. They could be pulled apart and questioned.

So I started writing poetry, using metaphors and riddles to express my internal world. Which happened to be quite dark at times. These pieces then turned into paintings. I feel that painting is the same thing as a poem; circular, representing one moment/ thought / feeling in time, full of movement, something that can’t quite be grasped - illusory. And so I’ve found comfort there, expressing myself and not being too vulnerable.

But lately I’ve not felt satisfied. I want to be more exact, I don’t want to hide behind the colours and forms anymore. I want to make something that can be held and felt. I don’t know that that looks like, but this is a start.

Im not a consistent person, as in if I tell myself I’ll post here every week (with all good intentions) I’ll feel completely limited and restricted and then this won’t be from a good place in me. So I’ll post when I have the energy to share.

My hope is that I can shed some light on what my art practice fully encompasses rather than just the finished pieces. It’s a never ending conversation with myself and my environment, which I’ll do my best to capture here.
